He said that the character of ‘SK’ is the story of people who fail in life, hence the audience can relate to him. Abhilash also shared the beginning of his career, his journey from radio jockey to films and web series. He told that acting was not his first dream, but he wanted to join the army. He also spoke openly about the challenges faced by being an outsider in the industry and the need to constantly prove himself. Here are some highlights… How is the response being received for ‘Aspirants’ Season 3? Spectacular. People have already connected with the aspirants, so this time too they are getting love. Especially the friendship scenes have become quite viral. People say that they became emotional after seeing it. Why do people connect so much with your character ‘SK’? Because this is not just the story of the topper, but the story of those who fail. We all feel the same somewhere, so a connection is made. Did you want to become an actor since childhood? no way. I wanted to join the army. I belong to a military family, clearing NDA was a dream, but it was not fulfilled. How did you enter acting? I was a radio jockey in Delhi. There I met Amit Sharma, director of the film ‘Tevar’. He asked me to try films. Then came to Mumbai and got my first film ‘Dil Junglee’. How was your career before ‘Aspirants’? Initially the films did not do well, then he did TV and comedy shows. He also used to do political satire on social media. But the real recognition came from the ‘aspirants’. How did you get the role of ‘SK’ in this series? I auditioned. At first I thought I would be playing the role of ‘Abhilash’, but later I came to know that I am getting the role of ‘SK’. What responsibility increased after ‘Aspirants’ Season 1? Yes, but I don’t make much changes in the script. Whatever is written, I follow it honestly. I believe in “less bombs”, less scenes but effective. How was the journey from radio to acting? Radio taught me a lot. There identity is established only by voice. The same confidence came in handy in acting. Have you taken acting training? No, I did not take any formal training. Whatever I learned, I learned from life. Living in different places made it easier to pick up different languages and accents. What changed in your career after ‘Aspirants’? After this I felt confident that I could call myself an actor. Then I worked with directors like Anurag Kashyap and got different roles. Which films and projects have you worked in? After ‘Aspirants’ I got many good projects. I worked in the film ‘Blurr’, worked with Anurag Kashyap in the film ‘Kennedy’. And worked with Ashwini Iyer Tiwari in the web series ‘Faadu’. These projects gave me a lot of confidence as an actor. What was the biggest struggle in the industry? Of being an outsider. You have to go out yourself and tell people what you can do. There is no godfather here. The struggle continues even today? Absolutely. Even today, I meet directors and producers and pitch myself. This process never ends. What are you doing to improve yourself? I am doing short films with FTII and NSD students. There is a lot to learn from there. I want to continuously improve my acting.
