If this bill is passed, then cooperation between India and America will increase in the fields of defense, technology, civil space, economy and medicine.

On Thursday, a demand was raised in the US Parliament to give India the same level of importance as Japan, Israel, South Korea and NATO allies. Apart from this, an appeal was also made to stop security assistance to Pakistan if it spreads terrorism against India.

US lawmaker Marco Rubio has introduced a bill in the Parliament for this. The bill states that India should be given technical assistance as one of America’s major allies. Apart from this, it should also be supported in dealing with the threat of terrorism. This bill has been named the US-India Defense Cooperation Act.

After presenting the proposal, the US MP said, “Communist China is trying to increase its dominance in the Indo-Pacific region. It also keeps violating the sovereignty of our regional allies. In such a situation, it is important that America helps its allies like India to deal with China.”

There was a demand to give ‘NATO Plus’ status to India
Earlier last year, a demand was raised in the US Parliament to give India ‘NATO Plus’ status. The Select Committee of the US Parliament had recommended this. The exercise to give ‘NATO Plus’ status to India was initiated with the objective of speeding up the transfer of arms and technology.

The committee believed that if China attacks Taiwan, then along with giving a strong strategic response, the Quad will also have to increase its role. However, India had clearly indicated that it does not want to join ‘NATO Plus’. Foreign Minister Jaishankar had made it clear that India is not very keen on the status of ‘NATO Plus’.
