An Indian citizen has been accused of selling and smuggling fake cancer medicine in the US state of Texas. The medicine that this man named Sanjay Kumar sold cost thousands of dollars. According to the case filed in the court, he has been charged in five cases.
If 43-year-old Sanjay is found guilty, he can be sentenced to up to 100 years in prison for each crime. According to the US Department of Justice, Sanjay Kumar was arrested on June 26 on suspicion of selling Keytruda medicine used to treat cancer.
It is alleged that he had entered the US market with the intention of furthering his counterfeit drug business. After an initial investigation, he was taken into custody by Homeland Security Investigations and the FDA.

Used in 19 types of cancer
Keytruda is an immunotherapy used to treat 19 types of cancer in the US. This drug is very effective in stopping tumors spreading to the lungs, head, neck, uterus, and breast.
This medicine is manufactured by Merck Sharp & Company. Last year, 25 crore Keytruda tablets were sold. The cost of this medicine, which is given every three weeks, is around Rs 10 lakh.
Fake cancer medicine racket exposed in Delhi too
Earlier in March, the Crime Branch of Delhi Police had busted a racket selling fake cancer medicines. 10 people were arrested in this. Out of these, 2 were staff of a big cancer hospital in Delhi. Keytruda medicine was also recovered from these people.
Police had said that these accused used to collect empty vials of injections used for chemotherapy in the hospital and then fill them with antifungal medicines and sell them. They used to target patients coming from outside Delhi. They used to sell their medicines by deceiving patients especially those coming from Haryana, Bihar, Nepal or African countries.
