Asif Merchant is accused of trying to hire an assassin in New York to kill key US officials.
The Justice Department in the US has arrested a Pakistani man with links to Iran on charges of plotting to assassinate American leaders. This is also being linked to Trump.
CNN quoted court documents as saying that 46-year-old Asif Merchant plotted to assassinate American leaders to avenge the killing of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards’ top commander Qasem Soleimani in 2020.
It is claimed about Merchant that he stayed in Iran for several days before going to America. He reached America from Pakistan in April this year to execute his plan. After reaching here, he tried to hire a killer in New York.
An unknown person informed the police about Merchant, after which the police took him into custody. The US Federal Court had ordered his arrest on July 16.

The FBI director said that Asif was caught before he could carry out any major conspiracy.
FBI revealed Merchant’s connection to Iran
According to BBC, FBI director Christopher Ray said that Merchant was plotting a dangerous assassination, which was foiled. Ray said that Merchant has direct connections with Iran. Iran had sent him to assassinate American leaders.
According to the report, the court document does not state whose assassination was planned in the failed plot, but US officials are linking it to Trump. After this information came to light, the US government has increased the security of former President Donald Trump and other officials.
Report claims- Iran is plotting to assassinate Trump
Trump was attacked while addressing a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13. After this, a CNN report claimed that a conspiracy was being hatched in Iran to kill the former US President.
However, it has not yet been revealed whether the attack on Trump has any connection with Iran or not. However, after this Trump had said that if Iran ever succeeds in killing him, he hopes that America will destroy it. It will be wiped off the world map.

Iranian General Qasim Suleimani used to carry out Iranian missions abroad. Suleimani was killed in a US airstrike in Baghdad.
Iran has threatened to take revenge for Suleimani’s death
Iran had also threatened to kill former US President Trump last year. Amirali Hajizadeh, head of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Aerospace Force, had said that if God wills, we will definitely kill Trump. We want to kill all those military commanders who were involved in the killing of Iranian military commander Qasim Soleimani.
In fact, on 3 January 2020, on the orders of then US President Donald Trump, his army and the CIA together killed the head of the Iranian special forces, General Qasim Suleimani. General Qasim was famous for fighting against the terrorist organization Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
In 2019, when US President Trump threatened Iran with destruction for breaking the nuclear deal, General Qasim had said that if Trump starts a war, we will end it. After Suleimani’s death, Iran also attacked the US Embassy in Baghdad on 7-8 January 2020. It fired 22 missiles on US military bases. Iran claimed that 80 US soldiers were killed in this attack.
