Speaking at the Shangri-La dialogue in Singapore, US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth.
US Defense Minister Pete Hegseth said that if China tried to forcefully capture Taiwan, it would be very bad on the Indo-Pacific region and the whole world.
According to Reuters report, Hegseth said in the ongoing Shangri-La dialogue in Singapore that China is preparing to spoil the balance of strength in Asia.
The Defense Minister made serious allegations on China such as cyber attacks, intimidating its neighbors and illegal possession in the South China Sea. Hegseth also said that China is continuously conducting military exercises around Taiwan, which seems to be a preparation for a major attack.
Hegseth said that China’s threat is real and it can be revealed anytime. He claimed that China aims to capture Taiwan by 2027. The US and its allies will combine the aggression of China.
The Shangri-Lo Dialogue to be held this year was inaugurated by French President Emmanuel Macron.
US Secretary of State said- We have come here for a long time
The US Defense Minister said that the Trump administration is working on both trade and defense fronts to stop China. Hegseth said-
We want peace, stability and security in this region and we have come here to stay here for a long time.
Hegseth said that the US is working closely with its Indo-Pacific allies and with their help the US can pay more attention to the region. He said that the security and prosperity of the US and its allies is connected to each other.
The US Defense Minister said that Trump is asking the countries of Europe to take more responsibility for its safety, so that the US can put more resources on Indo-Pacific. This will benefit everyone from the strong presence of America, but this will happen only when all the allies will also be strong.
He also reminded that during the tenure of President Trump, China did not attack Taiwan, and Trump’s purpose is that there is no war.
Macron targeted Russia-China
In his speech at the inauguration of Shangri-Low Dialogue, French President Macron appealed to the countries of Europe and Asia to unite against the forces that wanted to expand their impact through force and pressure. They did not name China and Russia, but their gesture was clear.
Macron said that some countries want to create areas in the world where only their dominance. They want to occupy the sea, islands and resources and exclude others. He said that these countries want to spread their influence from around Europe to the South China Sea.
Macron warned that if Russia was attacked by attacking Ukraine and grabbing its share, then no one would be able to stop in Taiwan or Philippines. He also said that it would be wrong to understand the war of Ukraine, because if the world is not able to stop Russia today, then tomorrow and the country will also muster the courage to do the same.

Leaders of more than 50 countries engaged in Shangri La Dialogue
Shangri-La Dialogue is a annual safety conference that takes place in Singapore. It was launched in 2002. It is named from the Shangri-La Hotel in Singapore, where it is held. The conference organizes the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) and Singapore government.
It is a platform where Defense Minister, Military Head, and Safety Experts from the Asia-Pacific region and other countries of the world are found. They discuss regional and global security issues. It consists of representatives from more than 50 countries.
In this meeting, no big officer came from China, but a small delegation was sent. Earlier, China’s Defense Minister used to come to this summit. This time (2025) Chief of Defense Staff General Anil Chauhan is participating in the summit from India.
