The US has imposed sanctions on more than 50 individuals, companies and ships involved in Iran’s oil and gas trade. These also include 8 Indian citizens and companies.
It is alleged that these people and companies together sent Iranian oil and gas products worth billions of dollars around the world. This helped Iran to fund terrorists.
The US State Department and Finance Ministry said that this step has been taken to stop funds from being delivered to Iran. These people and companies will be banned from doing business in America and entering there.

What will be the effect of the sanctions?
All assets of these companies in the US and their transactions with US citizens/companies have been immediately frozen. No US person or company can do business with these banned companies.
Apart from this, other companies in which these companies have more than 50% stake will also come under the purview of these restrictions.
