Out of the 6000 visas canceled in the US, about two-thirds, or about 4000 visa holders were involved in crimes. These include assault, theft and drunk driving.

The US State Ministry has confirmed that some cases were also related to terrorism. In 2023-24, more than 11 lakh foreign students were studying in American colleges.

America is constantly strict in giving visa

The US government has been constantly tightening the process of giving visas to international students. The US State Department has announced the closure of Visa drop box facility (IWP) a few days ago from September 2.

Now most of the applicants will have to go to the American Embassy or Consulate for non-immigrant visas like H-1B, L1 and F1.

With the facility of the drop box, applicants used to get a visa by submitting only documents without interview. Now only some special categories like diplomatic and official visa holders will be able to apply for without interview visa.

In 2022, 77% out of 3.20 lakh H-1B visas and 72.3% out of 3.86 lakh H-1B visas in 2023 were received by Indians. Now this decision is expected to have a big impact on Indian tech employees.

Interview of foreign students was banned 3 months ago

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio banned the new visa interview of foreign students 3 months ago. The purpose of his order was to prevent Jewish opposition and leftist ideas in the universities of the country.

Rubio had issued an order to American embassies worldwide, saying that they should not schedule new interviews for student visas, as the Trump government is going to tighten the investigation of the social media profiles of students coming to America.

He further said- With immediate effect, the Consular section should not allow the new appointment for the student or exchange visa (F, M and J) Visa until further guidelines are issued.

Although there may be pre -scheduled interviews, new appointments should not be added to the list. This prohibition applies to F, M and J visa categories, which covers most international students and exchange visitors.
