Trump informed about the action on his social media platform Truth Social on Friday morning Indian time.

US President Donald Trump has informed that America has launched a powerful and deadly attack on the bases of terrorist organization Islamic State (ISIS) in the north-western region of Nigeria on Thursday night.

Trump alleges that ISIS is brutally targeting and killing Christians in this area. Trump informed about the action on his social media platform Truth Social on Friday morning Indian time.

Describing ISIS terrorists as “terrorist trash”, he wrote that the group has been killing innocent Christians for a long time. According to Trump, the US Army carried out many perfect strikes in this operation.

He praised the Army, informally calling the Defense Ministry the “Department of War” and said that only America can take such precise action.

Trump said- America will not allow radical Islamic terrorism to flourish

The US President made it clear that under his leadership America “will not allow radical Islamic terrorism to flourish.” At the end of the post, Trump blessed the army and wished him a Merry Christmas and said that if the killings of Christians continue, more terrorists will be killed in the future.

More than 7,000 Christians have been killed in Nigeria from January to August 10 as religious violence escalated, according to a report by the International Society for Civil Liberties and the Rule of Law. Terrorist organizations like Boko Haram and extremist Fulani are responsible for these killings.

Trump had threatened to attack on November 2

Trump had given a stern warning to Nigeria on November 2. He had said that if the killing and attacks on Christians in Nigeria did not stop, the US would immediately stop all economic and military aid to the Nigerian government.

Trump wrote on Truth Social that if needed, the US would act in Nigeria ‘with guns’ and eliminate terrorists who are attacking Christians. Trump said he has ordered his Department of War to prepare for possible military action.

Why are Christians being attacked in Nigeria?

Nigeria’s population of 22 crore is almost equally divided between Muslim and Christian communities. Radical Islamic organizations like Boko Haram have been carrying out violence in the country for a long time.

Especially in the northern parts of the country, the Christian as well as the Muslim community is becoming the victim of violence. At many places these attacks take place due to religious reasons, at other times due to land, ethnic conflict or terrorist networks.

For the first time in 2020, the US placed Nigeria in the list of countries that violate religious freedom. This tag was removed in 2023, which was seen as an attempt to improve relations between the two countries.
