On social media and in some news reports, it is claimed that the python plots to kill its owner – it first sleeps with its owner wrapped around it and then starves itself so that one day it can swallow it. But the truth is a little different and more scientific.

There have been many cases around the world where humans became victims of Python attacks, but things like “pet python kills its owner with planning” are not true. For example, in Death of Akbar Salubiro, a 25-year-old Indonesian man was swallowed by a giant python while he went to work in the fields. His body was later found in the snake’s stomach, which shows that the python can also consider humans as prey. Similarly, cases like death of a woman by a pet python in America in 2008 and death of a man in Britain due to suffocation by his pet python in 2017 have also come to light.

Actually, pythons are not capable of thinking or plotting like humans. The basis of his behavior is only his natural instincts and hunger. In some cases, it has been seen that large-sized pythons attack their owner or nearby humans, but the reason behind this is not “planning” but hunting instinct. If the snake feels that the creature present in front can be its prey, then it can attack.

As far as “sleeping hugged” and “starving yourself” is concerned, according to experts it is a myth. Python is a cold-blooded creature, so it can come near humans to get body heat. At the same time, sometimes snakes can go without eating for a long time, which is their normal biological ability, and not part of any plan.

However, it is also true that large pythons are extremely powerful and if they are not handled properly or safety rules are not followed, they can prove to be dangerous. There have been some cases around the world where pet pythons attacked their owners or tried to swallow them. Therefore, experts advise that raising such animals can be risky and for this, experience, caution and right environment are very important.
