Do not immerse my ashes until those who tortured me are punished. If my wife, in-laws and judge are proven innocent, then throw my ashes in a gutter outside the court.

34 year old AI engineer Atul Subhash had written these things in a 24-page suicide note before committing suicide. It was written on top of every page – Justice is Due. On December 9, Atul’s body was found in his flat in Bengaluru. He had also made a video of 1 hour 20 minutes and uploaded it on social media.

Atul told in the video that his wife Nikita has filed many false cases against him in Jaunpur, UP. She is demanding Rs 3 crore to withdraw the case. The couple also has a 4 year old son. Nikita had demanded Rs 30 lakh for permission to meet him.

Atul lived in Dolphinium Residency in Marathahalli area of Bengaluru. Mostly IT professionals live here. Atul was associated with many NGOs working for men’s rights. Dainik Bhaskar reporter talked to Atul’s friend, his neighbor and NGO members. Read this report-

Friend said- Atul’s wife used to use it like ATM Sujit, who works in an IT company in Bengaluru, said that he is a friend of Atul. Sujit said, ‘I knew Atul for the last 4 years. I work in another company. Atul’s company was different, but he was a very close friend of mine.

‘He just told me that his wife and the judge are using him like an ATM. His wife had asked for Rs 50 lakh to open a cloud kitchen. She was asking for Rs 1 crore to buy a house. Atul had already given him Rs 15-20 lakh. Despite all this, she was not allowed to meet her son.

Sujit said, ‘Atul had traveled from Bengaluru to Jaunpur 40 times within two years due to the hearing of the case. He was spending a lot of money on this. The last time he went to the court, his wife had told the judge that if he could not pay Rs 3 crore then he should go and commit suicide. The judge was laughing at his words. Maybe that’s why he committed suicide.

Sujit said, Atul committed suicide for two reasons-

  1. His wife treated him like an object and not a human being. She was demanding Rs 3 crore. Where did he get such a huge amount from? If it is wrong to take dowry from the husband, then it should also be a crime for the wife to take unnecessary money from her husband.
  2. He was fed up with the system. The judge was supporting his wife. He did not get a date from the court. When he went on the date, the hearing was postponed. He has given evidence against everyone in the suicide note.

Sent goodbye message to NGO members before suicide Before committing suicide, Atul had sent his video and suicide note on the WhatsApp group of Save India Family Foundation. Atul was a senior member of this NGO. Bhaskar reporter talked to NGO member Naveen Kumar.

Naveen told, ‘Atul was associated with this NGO for the last few years. This organization works for men’s rights. Atul had sent the message of good bye at around 1 o’clock in the night. He also sent all the video documents and suicide note to the NGO. ‘Justice is due’ was written on every page of the 24-page suicide note. By the time we took him home, he was dead.

Suresh, another member of the NGO, said, ‘Atul was a senior member of the NGO. I had talked to him many times. We used to talk to each other about our problems. Earlier, Atul did not tell anything about his personal life, but some senior counselors counseled us. After this Atul shared some things.

‘He had told that cases are being registered against him one after the other. Her mother-in-law did not allow her to meet her child. He also had the responsibility of the office. He was a lead data scientist. That’s why he was very stressed, but he did not die due to stress.

‘Atul was not in depression. He died like a hero. He wanted to bring a change in the society. He wanted to raise the issue of injustice against men. He wanted to tell that the laws made in the interest of women in the country are being misused.

Atul’s brother said- sister-in-law was mentally torturing him Atul’s brother Bikash had talked to the media. He told, ‘I had talked to brother on phone on the evening of 8th December. During the conversation I didn’t feel at all that he could do something like this. Mom and dad also talked around 9-10 pm. Even during that time he was normal. He committed suicide late at night.

‘Brother had sent me a message at 2 o’clock in the night. Many documents were also sent on mail. I was sleeping. At around 3-4 pm I got a call from a member of Save India Family Foundation. Asked me if you had received any suicidal message. At first I thought it might be a prank call. Then I saw brother’s message.

‘I immediately called brother but did not get any response from him. I called the NGO people. He told that he was going to his house with the police. Brother’s car was not there. The police felt that brother was not at home. I asked the police to break the door and look inside. Brother had committed suicide by hanging himself from the fan.

Bikash said, ‘Sister-in-law was asking for Rs 3 crore. It is not common for a common man to earn Rs 3 crore. Brother’s job was the source of income. He used to send money to his parents every month. He also had his own expenses in Bangalore. From where would he give Rs 3 crore?

‘Sister-in-law was mentally harassing her. She used to say in front of the judge, commit suicide. If this was not torture then what was it? My brother has made a sacrifice. He has written everywhere – Justice is Due. My brother had mailed to the President, Supreme Court and everyone. We want justice. We want that there should be changes in the law, so that we can prove that we are not wrong.

Unless those who tortured me are punished, my ashes should not be immersed. If the corrupt judge acquits my wife and her family, then my ashes should be thrown into a gutter outside the same court.
