Regarding the current situation on the India-China border, the External Affairs Ministry said on Friday that the Army Chief and the government have the same stand on this issue.
In fact, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi had said on January 13 that the situation on the Line of Actual Control (China border) is sensitive, but under control.
Regarding this comment, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that we do not see any contradiction between what the Army Chief has said and the stand we have adopted.
Foreign Ministry said- work continues to reduce tension on LAC External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal was giving a press briefing on Friday. Asked about General Dwivedi’s recent statements, Jaiswal said the Army and the External Affairs Ministry are on the same page on the India-China border issue. He also said that Foreign Minister Jaishankar has also said in the Parliament that the work of reducing tension on LAC is still going on.

Now know what the Army Chief said on the situation on China border and LAC… General Upendra Dwivedi, during a press conference in Delhi on January 13, had discussed security on all the borders of the country. He told about the preparations of the Army regarding China Border, Myanmar Border and Manipur violence.
- The situation on LAC is sensitive, but the situation is under control. The LAC dispute situation in Depsang and Demchok in eastern Ladakh has been resolved in October 2024. Now patrolling has also started in both these areas.
- I have asked all my co-commanders to keep an eye on the situation on the ground regarding patrolling. These issues can be resolved only at the military level. Our deployment on LAC is balanced and strong. We have incorporated special technology while enhancing our military capability on the northern border.
- The Indian Navy is working extensively with us on Pangong Tso Lake. Their special forces are working with us in Jammu and Kashmir and other places. This also includes deep divers.
What did Foreign Minister Jaishankar say in Parliament External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had informed Parliament on December 3 on the India-China border dispute. The Foreign Minister had said in the House that India and China are trying to resolve the border dispute through dialogue and diplomacy. There has been complete disengagement in Eastern Ladakh. However, there is still dispute in many areas on LAC. India’s objective is to find a solution that is acceptable to both the countries.
He said, ‘Since 2020, relations between India and China are not normal. There was peace on the border, since then relations between the two countries are not good. However, the situation has improved somewhat due to recent talks.

Foreign Minister said- 38 meetings were held in 2 years, talks were held at every level.
- Negotiations, Efforts and Diplomacy: The Foreign Minister said that I had a conversation with the Chinese Foreign Minister to improve relations between India and China. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also talked to his counterpart Chinese leader. Apart from this, Working Mechanism for Cooperation and Coordination (WMCC) meetings are held at the diplomatic level and Senior Highest Military Commanders (SHMC) meetings at the military level. From June 2020 till now, 17 meetings of WMCC and 21 meetings of SHMC were held, then agreement was reached on Depsang and Demchok areas on 21 October 2024. These issues have been under discussion since September 2022, when the final agreement on hot springs was reached.
- Face China’s challenge strongly: In the Galwan clash of June 2020, for the first time after 45 years, soldiers lost their lives and heavy weapons were deployed on the border. India faced this challenge strongly.
- Galwan clash spoiled relations: ‘In 2020, China deployed a large number of troops near the border in eastern Ladakh, which increased tension between the soldiers of the two countries. This situation became a hindrance in the patrolling of the Indian Army. However, our army faced this challenge strongly. This caused serious harm to our efforts and had a deep impact on the relations between the two countries.
- All earlier agreements failed: Since 1988, India and China have signed several agreements to resolve border disputes through dialogue and maintain peace. Peace and confidence building measures were taken in 1993, 1996 and 2005. China captured 38,000 square kilometers of Indian territory in Aksai Chin in the 1962 war. Apart from this, in 1963, Pakistan had handed over 5,180 square kilometers of Indian land to China.

There was tension between India and China over the border dispute in eastern Ladakh for four years. After two years of long negotiations, an agreement was reached between the two countries in October this year, after which the armies of both the countries have retreated from Depsang and Demchok.
According to the agreement, both the armies have returned to their previous status from April 2020. Armies are now patrolling the same areas where they used to patrol before April 2020. Apart from this, the commander level meeting is still going on.
There was tension in Depsang and Demchok after the Galwan clash between India and China troops in 2020. After about 4 years, on October 21, a new patrolling agreement was signed between the two countries. Foreign Minister S Jaishankar had said that its objective is to stop Galwan-like skirmishes in Ladakh and to restore the situation like before.
There was a clash between the armies of China and India in Galvan in 2020.

The picture is of the bloody clash between the soldiers of India and China on 15 June 2020 in Galwan Valley of Ladakh. After this the dispute between the two countries deepened.
