Prime Minister Narendra Modi has left for a two-day visit to Poland today on Wednesday. This is the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Poland in the last 45 years. Earlier, Morarji Desai had gone there in 1979.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a statement before starting his visit to Poland and Ukraine. PM Modi has said, “I am leaving on an official visit to Poland and Ukraine. My visit is taking place on the occasion of completion of 70 years of diplomatic relations with Poland. Poland is our economic partner in Central Europe.”

Regarding his visit to Ukraine, the PM said that he is looking forward to sharing his views with President Zelensky on a peaceful solution to the Ukraine conflict.

According to the Indian Foreign Ministry, PM Modi will be on an official visit to Poland from 21-23 August. PM Modi will leave for Ukraine on 23 August.

Modi, Poland President, PM and Indian community will meet with
This visit is taking place at a time when 70 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries are also being completed. First of all, PM Modi will be welcomed in Warsaw, the capital of Poland. After this, he will meet the President of Poland Andrzej Sebastian Duda and then will participate in bilateral talks with Prime Minister Donald Tusk.

The Prime Minister will also meet the Indian community in Poland. There are 25 thousand people of the Indian community living in Poland. There are about 5 thousand students in it.

PM Modi may also visit the memorials of the Maharajas of Jamnagar and Kolhapur. This is a mark of historical relations between India and Poland. Maharaja Digvijaysinhji gave shelter to thousands of Polish refugees during the Second World War.

Trade between Poland and India increased
Trade between India and Poland is expected to be $5.72 billion in 2023. Trade between the two countries has grown by 192% from 2013 to 2023. In 2023, India had exports worth $3.95 billion and imports worth $1.76 billion with Poland.

India has an investment of more than $3 billion in Poland. Indian IT companies employ around 10,000 people in Poland. At the same time, Poland has an investment of $685 million in India.

India has been doing defence trade with Poland, which includes deals for helicopters, aircraft parts and other army hardware. Polish company Bumar Labedy has been a major contributor to the upgrade of India’s T-72 tanks. The armies of the two countries have also conducted several joint exercises.

Many agreements have also been signed between India and Poland in the field of energy and technology. Recently, Himachal Futuristic Communications Limited (HFCL) announced plans to invest Rs 144 crore for an optical fiber plant.

Poland is going to become the President of the European Union Council next year. Therefore, Poland is important in the European Union from a political aspect as well.

Poland’s ambassador said- India is the voice of the world
On PM Modi’s visit to Poland, Polish Ambassador Sebastian Domjalski said, “India is the voice of the world. Modi’s visit will send a strong message internationally that India is in favor of peace. During his visit, technology, defense and security will be important topics of discussion.”

India’s first PM Jawaharlal Nehru visited Poland on 25 June 1955. After this, Indira Gandhi visited Poland on 8 October 1967. Then Morarji Desai was the last Indian Prime Minister to visit Poland on 14 June 1979. Now Modi is going there 45 years later.

PM Modi will visit Ukraine on August 23
After the Poland visit, Modi will visit Ukraine on August 23. He will travel to Ukraine by train from Poland. His visit is considered important amid the Russia-Ukraine war. Ukrainian President Zelensky had invited PM Modi to visit Ukraine.

Ukraine became a separate country in 1991. After that no Indian Prime Minister has visited there. Earlier, PM Modi also visited Russia on 8 and 9 July.

This visit of PM Modi is taking place at a time when Ukraine has started attacking Russia by entering its borders for the past few days. Ukraine has captured some areas of Russia. It is feared that Russia may launch a major attack on Ukraine soon.
