Made it straight to senior cricket without playing Under-16 or Under-19 and has now left for Ahmedabad for his next assignment with IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals. In a special conversation with Dainik Bhaskar, Naveen openly shared his struggles, learning and dreams. Now read the entire conversation in question and answer… Question: What was the biggest challenge in the beginning? Answer: The biggest lack in the beginning was guidance. Earlier the facilities in Uttarakhand were also less. As I came into professional cricket, I understood how things work. Now the environment is much better than before. Question: What is the biggest mantra of your success? Naveen: Fitness. I always say – you cannot stay fit by playing cricket, but if you are fit, you can play cricket for a long time. Question: How important was the support of the family? Answer: Initially the family was not completely confident, which is normal in a middle class family. But as I performed, their support increased. Today they stand firmly with me. Question: What was the turning point of your career? New: Uttarakhand Premier League (UPL). Did not do that well in Season-1, but took 10 wickets in 5 matches in Season-2. My mindset had changed. From there I got the opportunity to trial IPL franchises. Question: Debut match and wicket of Ishan Kishan, how was the experience? Answer: Very special. There was pressure initially because Ishan sir is a big player, but when he got out, that moment cannot be described in words. That wicket will be remembered for the whole life. Question: What difference did you feel between T20 and ODI? Answer: In ODI you have to bowl at one place and be patient. In T20, something new has to be done on every ball. Coach Manish Sharma sir helped a lot in understanding this change. Question: How was the experience of Rajasthan Royals camp? Answer: There is a lot to learn. There is no pressure there, just healthy competition. There is a lot of improvement by watching and learning from big players. Question: What lesson did you learn from Shane Bond? Answer: His simple mantra is – bowl according to the pitch and conditions. Don’t think too much, make a plan and implement it properly. Question: What are your strengths and focus areas? Answer: My bouncer is my biggest strength. But right now I am working more on my yorker, so that I can make it better. Question: What is the future goal? Answer: Every player’s dream is to play for Team India. But right now my focus is to continue performing well in domestic cricket. Question: What message would you like to give to the youth of Uttarakhand? Answer: Never give up. Many times it will seem that nothing is happening, but keep working hard. Consistency is very important.
