Veteran actor Dharmendra passed away on 24 November. Now Hema Malini has talked about recovering from this shock for the first time after Dharmendra’s death. He says that this is such a shock which was impossible to handle. He also told that Isha, Ahana, Sunny Bobby were all together in the hospital. Everyone was hopeful that this time too, like every time, he would fully recover and return home.

Talking about Dharmendra’s death in an interview to Times of India, Hema Malini said, ‘It was such a shock that it was impossible to handle. The situation was very bad, because for a month when he was not well, we were continuously struggling. We were constantly trying to cope with whatever was happening in the hospital. We all were there, Isha, Ahana, Sunny, Bobby, all together. It had happened many times before that he went to the hospital and returned home after recovering. We thought that this time also he would return.

The actress further said, ‘He was talking to us very lovingly. He also wished me on my birthday (16 October). His birthday was coming up on 8th December, when he would have turned 90, and we were preparing to celebrate him well. Preparations were going on and then suddenly he was no more among us. It was very difficult to see him breaking like this before our eyes. No one should have to go through such situations.

Hema Malini has also spoken on the rumors being spread about the family online. She said, ‘I am seeing a lot of content in which there are videos of me crying and my eyes looking swollen and red. I request people not to get involved in all this. Seeing such things, my fans and friends are sending me sympathetic messages and asking me to stay strong. But I am a very strong person. I keep my feelings to myself.

The actress further said, ‘When my mother died 20 years ago, I thought that maybe I would not be able to live without her, but I was able to live. This is what life teaches us. Time doesn’t stop for anyone. Whenever my daughters cry or are upset, I tell them the same thing. We remember Dharamji every moment. This morning he had prepared thepla, which he ate with great relish with chutney. He also liked our home’s idli-sambar and coffee. That’s why whenever these things are made at home, we miss them a lot. It is important for us to keep him alive in our hearts and memories. We have so many videos together that I feel like crying after watching them.

During the interview, Hema Malini also reacted to Sunny Deol getting angry after seeing the presence of media. He said, ‘Sunny used to get very upset and angry. We all were going through an emotional phase and the media was chasing our vehicles, we were harassed a lot.

Hema Malini also recalled the memorable moments spent with Dharmendra at his Lonavala farmhouse. He said, ‘His farm in Lonavala is very beautiful, it looks exactly like mini Punjab. There are cows there and we get ghee from there. Just two months ago, he had brought us three bottles of ghee and said, ‘This is for Isha, this is for Ahana and this is for you.’ He was a very loving and wonderful person. When I was not around, he used to spend time in Lonavala. When I would go to Mathura or Delhi for work, we would adjust our schedules and when I returned, he would also come back to my house in Mumbai and spend time with me.

Hema Malini further said, similarly we were living a happy life with our grandchildren. Many times he used to stay at Ahana’s house also. Together we have shared so many beautiful moments. He has been an important part of our lives and now suddenly, for the last one month, he is not with us. It is very difficult to accept this. Whenever I had to take a decision, I used to ask him.
