Choreographer Vijay Ganguly of Dharmendra’s last film Ikkis has recently talked about Dharmendra’s dedication. He has told how Dharmendra had insisted on shooting the dance scene during late night shooting. Vijay has told that everyone present on the set wanted Dharmendra not to dance to avoid fatigue, but while shooting dance for others, he also insisted that he too should be choreographed and taught dance.
Vijay Ganguly, while sharing his experience of working with Dharmendra in a recent interview with Pinkvilla, said, ‘When you see people like Dharam ji working, you realize that if he can do all this at this age, then we have no reason not to be grateful or not to give our 100 percent. We were shooting a song at that time, which was a qawwali song, he (Dharmendra) was sitting there. I told him that here you have to dance a little. He said, “Okay, what to do? Tell me.”’

Vijay Ganguly further said, ‘I said, “Anything. You just stand and do whatever you feel like. There is no need to do what other people are doing. On this he asked, ‘What are other people doing?’ Then we showed him that the boys were doing a special kind of leg-step by holding each other, it was quite a Pathani-like style.’
Vijay further said, ‘I also had it in my mind that we should not make them work too hard, because we did not want them to overexert themselves. So we told them that you don’t need to do this, you just stand and enjoy as you do. He said, “No, I have to do it. I will do it. Call two boys.” He actually stood up, even though it was a bit difficult for him to even sit up at that time.
Further in the conversation, Vijay said, ‘He called two boys, held them by the shoulders and said, “Show me, how to do this.” I kept saying you don’t need to do this, but he did it anyway. Ultimately we told them not to do this again and again, because if there were re-takes, they would have to do this step many times, and this could also be tiring. It was not mandatory for him to dance there, but it was important for him to give his 100%. They should not have felt that they were not able to do it. His attitude was, “I will do it.”’
Vijay Ganguly has also said that along with doing the dance steps, he was also asking for lyrics again and again. He read the lyrics of the song right there and said that if lipsync is required, I will do that too.

Let us tell you that Dharmendra’s film Twenty One has been released on January 1. This is Dharmendra’s last film, in which he also read the poetry written by him. In the film, he played the role of Arun Khetrapal, the father of Agastya Nanda.
