Although Pakistan did not clearly say that it carried out these attacks, it warned the Taliban not to give shelter to the Pakistani-Taliban on its soil.
After this, Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaki had said – Pakistan should stop playing games with us. Don’t provoke us. Ask Britain and America once, they will explain to you that it is not right to play such games with Afghanistan.
Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP): Insurgent organization of Pakistan
- When America attacked Afghanistan in 2001, many fighters hid in the tribal areas of Pakistan.
- In 2007, Betullah Mehsud merged 13 insurgent groups to form Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
- A large number of people from the faction opposing the Pakistani Army were involved in this.
- Their fight is against Pakistan’s army and government.
- Many supporters associated with this organization are present in the Pakistani Army.
- America has warned Pakistan that TTP can reach nuclear weapons.
Why fight between Pakistan and TTP?
- After America’s attack on Afghanistan in 2001, Pakistan supported America. This angered TTP, they considered it against Islam.
- TTP believes that the Pakistan government does not believe in true Islam, hence it attacks against it.
- TTP has deep links with the Afghan Taliban. Both groups support each other.
- After the Afghan Taliban came to power in 2021, Pakistan launched attacks in Afghanistan targeting TTP.
- TTP exploits the grievances of the Pashtun community such as poverty, unemployment and government neglect.
There has been tension between the two countries before
There is a long standing dispute between Afghanistan and Pakistan regarding the Durand Line. Both countries keep accusing each other of attacks and hiding terrorists. In 2021, tension has increased further after Taliban took control of the government of Afghanistan.
