Actor Vijay’s film ‘Jana Nayakan’ is in legal trouble. The film was to be released on January 9, but the release is stuck due to censor certificate. After which the court has now fixed the hearing of this case for January 21. Meanwhile, today on Saturday, Kamal Haasan has raised questions on the film certification process by sharing a social media post.
In a statement shared on
He further said, “Cinema is not the work of one person, but writers, technicians, performers, theater owners and small businesses are involved in it. The livelihood of all of them depends on a correct and timely certification process.”
Kamal Haasan is a member of Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu.
Haasan said, “When there is no clarity, creativity stagnates, economic activities are affected and public confidence is weakened. Cinema lovers of Tamil Nadu and India have passion, understanding and maturity for the art; they deserve transparency and respect.”
Kamal Haasan also said, “There is now a need to rethink the certification processes based on principles, with fixed timelines for certification, transparent evaluation and written, logical reasons for every suggested cut or edit.
Finally, he said, “This is also the time for the entire film industry to come together and engage in meaningful, constructive dialogue with government institutions. Such reforms will protect creative freedom, uphold constitutional values, and further strengthen India’s democratic institutions by instilling trust in artists and the public.
Let’s have the release of the people hero
Let us tell you that regarding the release of the film Jan Nayakan, the Division Bench of Madras High Court has put a temporary stay on the order of the Single Judge, in which the film was ordered to be given a U/A certificate.
The second hearing of the case related to the film took place in Madras High Court on 9 January. In the first hearing, the single judge bench of the court had directed CBFC to issue the U/A certificate at 10:30 am itself.
But this decision of the High Court was challenged by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and demanded to form a revising committee to re-examine the film.
The Censor Board filed a writ petition against this decision, after which the Chief Justice bench of Madras High Court put a stay on the release and fixed the next hearing for January 21.

Bobby Deol is playing the role of the main villain in Vijay’s film Jan Nayakan.
The bench remarked during the hearing that CBFC should have been given proper time to oppose the release of the film. The division bench of Chief Justice Manindra Mohan Srivastava and Justice G Arul Murugan also raised questions on fixing the release date even before getting the certificate from the filmmakers.
The bench told the makers- ‘If you do not have the certificate then how can you release the film? You cannot fix the release date nor put pressure on the system.
Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi, representing KVN Productions in the plea, argued that despite the film being reviewed by the certification panel, only one member of the board had filed the complaint. He reminded the court that the plan was to release Jan Nayakan on January 9.
