The situation in Bangladesh remains tense. Since Sheikh Hasina left the country, there have been allegations of atrocities against Hindu Bangladeshis. More than 1 thousand Bangladeshi Hindus have reached the India-Bangladesh border in Jalpaiguri, West Bengal. They want to cross the border and come to India. The BSF has stopped their attempt to infiltrate into India. The BSF has stopped them at the Satkura border. This incident is from South Berubari Panchayat of Jalpaiguri district.
On Wednesday afternoon, more than a thousand Bangladeshis, mostly Hindus, tried to infiltrate the Indian border. On receiving information, the BSF reached there and stopped the infiltration. According to local sources, the gathered Bangladeshis are eager to enter India.
Hindu Bangladeshis standing at the border allege that their houses and temples are being burnt. They want to take refuge in India. On the other side, the Indian people are suspicious of this crowd. They say that if Bangladeshis enter India, they will face food shortage. In such a situation, they do not want Bangladeshis to come to India. A crowd of Indians has gathered on the border in the Indian border as well. However, the BSF has tried to convince the Bangladeshi Hindus. The crowd is still present on the border.
A Hindu woman from Bangladesh had narrated her ordeal
Recently a Hindu woman from Bangladesh narrated her ordeal. She said, I and any other member of the family have not gone out for the past one week. The kitchen has run out of food. We boil rice with salt and eat it late in the afternoon so that we don’t feel hungry at night. Then we keep watch at night. Earlier the men used to stay awake. Now we have also taken turns. ‘And your children?’ My daughter is in your country itself. In Siliguri. She cries on the phone but we are at peace. Even if she becomes homeless, she will remain alive.
The impact of the political upheaval in Bangladesh is not limited to the Parliament, this fire is also burning ordinary homes. The Hindu minority is a soft target. Homes and shops are being burnt. Temples are being demolished. Mobs are attacking settlements where there is a Hindu population. According to reports, there are 27 such districts where minorities are facing all this. But the worst condition is of women.
BSF on high alert
Amid the ongoing crisis in Bangladesh and alleged attacks on minorities, there were fears that minorities, especially Hindus from the Bangladesh border on the Bengal side, would try to infiltrate into India. Such an attempt was made on 7 August, although the BSF foiled it in parts of North Bengal.
