India is celebrating its 78th Independence Day. The country became independent on 15 August 1947 after struggling against British rule for 200 years. There were tears of joy in everyone’s eyes that day. You too can see some glimpses of that historic moment.
1. Bismillah Khan’s Shehnai which he played from the Red Fort
Ustad Bismillah Khan was called to Delhi to make the moments of Independence more auspicious. He was full of enthusiasm and a group of musicians was also with him. Bismillah Khan played a lot of Khushi Raaga in the program of Independence Day celebrations that day.
2. The excitement of the first flag hoisting of independent India
There was excitement everywhere. By 5 pm on 15 August, a crowd of 5 lakh people had gathered at Princess Park to see the tricolour being hoisted. The next day, i.e. on 16 August, when the tricolour was hoisted for the first time at the Red Fort, lakhs of people were present there too.
3. Excitement of celebration among 40 crore people
On that day, more than 40 crore people were ready to breathe in the open air of two free countries, India and Pakistan. A crowd of millions of people gathered outside the Parliament House in Delhi, cheering and celebrating. The atmosphere was like that of joy, celebration and fair.
4. When the British army left India
On 18 August 1947, the first contingent of the British army left India. As soon as the British soldiers moved towards the ship, the Royal Indian Navy band started playing. The ship Georgic left the Indian coast. Now India was in the safe hands of its country’s army.
5. Nehru’s speech when a new era began
On the midnight of 14th August 1947, the country’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru gave a historic speech in the Indian Constituent Assembly… Tryst with Destiny… i.e. meeting with destiny…. An era was ending that day and the soul of the nation found expression.
