In the 36 days since Zubeen’s funeral, more than 5 lakh Assamese Gamchas have been offered at his Samadhi. Thousands of letters have been submitted here in the name of Zubeen.
People coming here are also seen wearing the same Gamchha, because Zubeen used to kiss it for his Assamese identity. The same things are written in these gamchas, which made Zubeen the ‘darling of Assam’. It is written on the towels – Jai Zubeen Da.

Every day 5 to 10 thousand people are reaching Zubeen’s tomb.
What did the people who came to the Samadhi say?
- Manisha Mili Gurung, who came from Jonai in Dhemaji district, said – My son Sunu suffered from kidney disease in 2015. When this was told to Zubeen da, he gave ₹ 5.50 lakh for the treatment. How can someone love a stranger so much? I am ill, admitted for many days, then after coming out of the hospital, I have come here to look for him. He shared my pain, today I am sharing his pain.
- Moroni Rabha, who came from Guwahati, was found sitting silently and crying. He said bluntly – This place is not a crematorium, it has now become a temple and we are devotees. Women are doing bhajan-kirtan 24 hours. She is waiting for her turn for hours to show her devotion towards Zubeen. Such a scene will no longer be seen anywhere in the world, where lakhs of people come together for an artist.
- Mafijul Haq, who came from Dhubri, 300 km from Guwahati, with his wife and 10-year-old daughter, says, ‘Zubin da did not discriminate on any caste or religion. He had donated Rs 10 lakh for the education of Muslim children. I want to make my daughter like him, so I have brought her along.
- 70 year old Roopnath Kalita, who came from Goreshwar, says that Zubeen often used to openly say in his concerts that I have no caste, no religion, no God. I am free. I am Kanchenjunga. They used to say so much to the leaders on public platforms, but no one ever even made an oops. People have come here with these things written on towels.

On October 17, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi also reached Kamarkuchi to pay tribute to Zubeen.
The romantic song which Zubeen always used to sing has now become a prayer. Zubeen used to sing a special Assamese song in his programs – ‘Mayavini Ratir Bukut’. After singing this, he used to say – When I die, play this song in the whole of Assam. Although it is a romantic song, today it has become a prayer for the Assamese race. Its tune can be heard all over Assam. It plays 24 hours at the memorial site.
