On Sunday, women in Shokwao and New Haven areas of Ukhrul district did not allow the Assam Rifles soldiers to proceed and kept protesting with torches.
Caste violence has been going on in Manipur for 3 years. There is no complete peace in the state. On Monday, Kuki militant organization opened fire in Pongringlong Rongmei Naga village of Kangpokpi district. After this incident, the body of a missing Naga village guard named Chunjanglung Panmei has been found in the forests. He was shot on the head.
Naga groups allege that the Center is using Kuki groups as a shadow war. Apart from this, unknown armed people opened fire in Ching Mamang village, in which one person was injured. Naga organizations have accused the security forces of bias. Also demanded a fair investigation.
It is necessary to inform the village authority before the entry of security forces in the village.
Meanwhile, the village authority of Longzang/Thangal village in Noney district has given notice to the state police, Assam Rifles, CRPF. It says that they should not come to the villages without giving information. Don’t fly drones either.
Under the Manipur Hill Areas Village Authorities Act, 1956, the village authority is responsible for the security and law and order of the villages. It is necessary to inform the village authority before searching, patrolling, raiding or arresting.
Women’s mega rally demanding NRC
On Monday, women from 14 civil organizations took out a 5 KM long rally in Imphal. Thousands of women gathered on the streets demanding NRC and identifying and expelling infiltrators.
Hundreds of women joined the procession carrying placards and banners.
731 deaths in three years
Due to the ongoing violence and tension in Manipur, a large number of people are living in relief camps. Information sought from RTI has revealed that 731 displaced people have lost their lives in three years. Maximum 248 deaths have been recorded in Churachandpur, 151 in Bishnupur and 128 in Kangpokpi. Whereas 43,676 people are still displaced in 9 districts of the state.
