When Abdul Karim Tak faced questions about why he was spending so much on his daughters’ education, he chose not to let social criticism determine their future. Years later, his daughter Mavis Tak went on to clear the UPSC Civil Services Examination and join the Indian Police Service.
Mavis Tak, a 2022-batch IPS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, secured All India Rank 386 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2021 and was allocated the IPS. After serving in Uttar Pradesh, she was posted as Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Sonbhadra, with the posting taking effect on September 19, 2026. The UP Police records list her date of birth as September 24, 1996.

Her father reportedly faced questions from relatives and others about the decision to provide higher education to his daughters. Instead of allowing those comments to affect their education, he continued to support all three daughters in their studies.
Mavis completed her schooling in Mumbai. She studied at New Cambridge School and later attended Royal College of Arts, Science and Commerce. She graduated in Political Science from the University of Mumbai and subsequently completed a master’s degree in Indian Federation and Language Politics. Mavis’ UPSC journey was not an immediate success. She could not clear the preliminary examination in her first two attempts. Instead of abandoning her preparation, she worked on the weaknesses she had identified and changed her preparation strategy.
According to media reports, she prepared through self-study rather than joining a coaching institute. Her third attempt produced a different result: she secured Rank 386 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2021. The official final-result data records Mavis Tak with a total score of 937 and rank 386, while the service-allocation record shows her allocation to the IPS.
She subsequently joined the Uttar Pradesh cadre and is now a 2022-batch IPS officer.
Initially, Mavis Tak served in Banda. She has now been transferred to Sonbhadra as Additional Superintendent of Police.
The Uttar Pradesh Police’s official officer profile confirms that her current posting is ADDL. SP/SONBHADRA, with the posting date recorded as September 19, 2026.
