Passengers aboard the Swatantrata Senani Superfast Express were left panicked on Saturday evening after a snake was seen slithering through a concealed panel above an upper berth. Railway authorities later replaced the suspected coach at Muzaffarpur as a precaution.

The incident took place in A2, an AC 2-Tier coach of train 12561, which was travelling from Jaynagar to New Delhi. After the train left Jaynagar at around 5.30 pm, a passenger noticed the snake entering the panel above an upper berth.

Arun Thakur, who was travelling in the same compartment, filmed the incident. The video showed the snake moving inside the panel as passengers raised an alarm.

Search Fails To Locate Snake

The incident was reported to the coach attendant, TTE and railway control room. However, by the time the train reached Darbhanga, the snake had disappeared inside the panel.

Railway staff opened the panel and searched for the reptile but could not find it. The train subsequently continued towards Muzaffarpur via Samastipur and reached Muzaffarpur Junction at around 9.38 pm.

However, News18 could not independently verify the authenticity of the video.

Following the train’s arrival, railway and Carriage and Wagon department rescue teams reached the coach. Passengers were asked to leave the coach as railway staff carried out a detailed search that lasted nearly an hour.

Despite the search, the snake could not be traced.

East Central Railway chief public relations officer Saraswati Chandra confirmed that the suspected coach was replaced at Muzaffarpur as a precautionary measure, Hindustan Times reported.

“Two staff members escorted the suspected coach from Samastipur to Muzaffarpur. They opened the panels near seat number 34, but nothing was found,” Chandra said.

“However, as an extra precaution and to ensure the safety of passengers, we replaced the suspected coach at Muzaffarpur with another coach and detached the old coach,” she added.

Chandra said passengers were moved to the newly attached coach safely after announcements were made and railway staff assisted them.
