Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan addressed the closing ceremony of Kashi Tamil Sangamam 4.0 in Rameswaram, beginning his speech in Tamil, a move seen as a counter to the ruling DMK’s language narrative.

Pradhan emphasised that India’s unity is enhanced through respect for diversity and the sharing of knowledge. He described the Kashi Tamil Sangamam as a civilisational movement reflecting the country’s enduring cultural unity. The theme, ‘Learn Tamil – Tamil Karkalam’, highlighted the significance of learning Tamil and exploring India’s ancient wisdom, paying tribute to the nation’s linguistic and cultural richness.

He added that the need for India to move beyond traditional education boundaries and focus on a system based on skills, entrepreneurship, and apprenticeships. He noted that education should not merely confer degrees but also make the youth practically competent and self-reliant.

Dharmendra Pradhan On Language Row

On the ongoing language debate, Pradhan clarified that there is no language issue in India or Tamil Nadu, but rather a challenge in understanding and communication. The new National Education Policy’s three-language formula aims to strengthen children’s foundational skills, enabling them to confidently progress in any language.

Speaking on the goal of a developed India, Pradhan stressed the importance of increasing labour force participation, particularly for women, as essential for progress. He noted that a strong, inclusive workforce is crucial for a developed economy. With technological advancements, such as the increasing use of drones in agriculture, the combination of skills and technology is creating new employment and innovation opportunities.

He concluded that for a developed economy, both technology and the labour force must be strengthened simultaneously. Future changes in AI for Education will make teaching methods more practical, modern, and aligned with future needs.
