Calum McFarlane is set to join Liam Rosenior as Chelsea assistant after impressing as interim head coach. Rosenior will debut on Saturday against Charlton Athletic.

Calum McFarlane is set to become Liam Rosenior’s assistant at Chelsea, completing a swift rise after his impressive spell as interim head coach at Stamford Bridge.
As per reports, McFarlane will now work permanently with the first team, stepping away from his role as Under-21s head coach.
His promotion follows two steady performances in difficult circumstances, including a creditable 1-1 draw away at Manchester City and another match in charge on Wednesday night, watched from the stands by newly appointed boss Rosenior.
Rosenior, confirmed just over 24 hours before Chelsea’s midweek trip to Craven Cottage, has yet to finalise his full backroom staff, but McFarlane is expected to be alongside him in the dugout. Under-18s coach Harry Hudson is set to replace McFarlane as head coach of the U21s.
Speaking after Wednesday’s game, McFarlane admitted he was unsure about any change to his role at the time, only to later discover the U21s had suffered a heavy defeat to Benfica.
By Thursday morning, however, clarity arrived — and so did the promotion.
Rosenior was understood to be impressed by McFarlane’s calm handling of the squad following Enzo Maresca’s abrupt departure and personally asked him to join his coaching team.
Chelsea now turn their focus to Saturday’s FA Cup third-round tie against Charlton Athletic, which will mark Rosenior’s first match in charge.
The 41-year-old is scheduled to address the media for the first time as Blues boss at Cobham on Friday.
