Bollywood’s ‘Greek God’ Hrithik Roshan, born on 10 January 1974, is celebrating his 52nd birthday today.
If there is any actor in Bollywood who inspires us to change his weakness into strength and reach the pinnacle of success, then it is Hrithik Roshan, who is called the ‘Greek God’ of Bollywood. Correct pronunciation of words, physical fitness, dance and action are in great demand for an actor. This was Hrithik’s biggest weakness.
The severe problem of stammering since childhood and another serious disease called Scoliosis at the age of 21 tried their best to crush Hrithik’s dreams. Doctors had even said that if Hrithik chooses acting as a profession, it could lead to lifelong disability. But regardless of these, he defeated his weaknesses and diseases and touched the heights of success.
Today, on Hrithik Roshan’s 52nd birthday, let us know the story of him becoming the Greek God of Bollywood..

Father wanted Hrithik to concentrate on his studies
Hrithik Roshan completed his early education from Bombay Scottish School and later obtained a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Sydenham College. His father Rakesh Roshan wanted him to focus on his studies and go abroad for further studies. During this time, he also received a scholarship offer from a prestigious university of America. However, Hrithik had a deep passion for acting and cinema since childhood, due to which he rejected that golden educational opportunity.

used to sweep film sets
Despite being from a film family, Hrithik was not launched directly. Before becoming an actor, he decided to learn the work at the grassroots level and started working as an assistant director with his father Rakesh Roshan. He worked as an assistant director in many films like King Uncle, Karan Arjun’ Koyla, etc.
According to the news published in Republic World, Hrithik Roshan had said in an interview that he used to work hard on the sets. He also did small tasks like sweeping, serving tea and giving claps on the set so that he could understand the nuances of film production. Hrithik had also told that after the pack-up of his father’s films, he would often repeat the scenes of the films to see whether he was getting better in acting or not.
After gaining experience as an assistant director, he debuted as an actor in the year 2000 with ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’, but starting this journey has not been easy for Hrithik Roshan.
I had no friends or girlfriend in my childhood.
Hrithik had a serious problem of stammering since childhood. He had a lot of difficulty in speaking even a small sentence and other children in school used to make fun of him. In an interview given to BBC, Hrithik had said – I used to stammer so much in my childhood that I could not even talk properly. I never had any friends or girlfriend. I was very shy and would just cry after coming back from school.
On the day when oral test was held in school, he would make excuses and not go to school. To overcome this problem, Hrithik took speech therapy and worked hard for hours. He developed his own special technique, reading novels and books out loud, so that he could hear his own words and gain confidence.

Diagnosed with serious illness before debut in acting
When Hrithik Roshan was preparing to debut in acting, he was diagnosed with another serious disease called scoliosis. This is a disease of rotation of the spine, in which the person faces a lot of difficulty in lying down, getting up and sitting. The doctors clearly told him that he would never be able to dance and would not be able to do all the work required to become a Bollywood hero. It is no less than a shock for any person, because the dreams were shattered even before they could take off.
Doctors said I could never make a physique
The doctors clearly told Hrithik that due to scoliosis he would never be able to do physically demanding work like dancing or action films. Doctors advised against taking up acting as a profession as it could lead to lifelong disability, but Hrithik did not give up.
He read all the research available on scoliosis, did physiotherapy regularly and made his body so strong. Hrithik was very thin at that time. Doctors had said that due to a problem in his spinal cord, he could never make a physique.

It was around 1995 when Hrithik was diagnosed with scoliosis. He was 21 years old then.
Turned my weakness into strength, kept struggling with pain, but did not lose courage
Instead of accepting his situation, Hrithik decided to fight it. He regularly trained relentlessly to strengthen his back, including planks, weights and flexibility drills. He learned special exercises and techniques to override his spine condition. He rehearsed dance moves to the point of exhaustion, battling excruciating pain, but never let his spirit break.
Today, Hrithik’s dance has such a unique blend of fluidity, precise movements and facial expressions that he brings alive every beat of the song. His physique is so sharp that every movement of the stunts and fight scenes of the films looks very dramatic and impactful.

Became a superstar overnight from the very first film
In the year 2000, Hrithik Roshan made his Bollywood debut with the film ‘Kaho Na Pyaar Hai’ and this film proved to be a blockbuster. Hrithik became a superstar overnight and his style, dancing and acting made everyone crazy. But there were more challenges ahead in Hrithik’s career. Which he faced bravely.

Many serious accidents happened during the shooting of the film.
Hrithik Roshan had a dangerous accident in Singapore during the shooting of the film ‘Krrish’. During a stunt, the wire tied to him suddenly broke, causing him to fall from a height of about 50 feet. Luckily he fell on the canopy of a shop below, which softened the blow and saved his life, although he suffered injuries from the fall.

In the same shooting, he also suffered a slipped disc.
Despite enduring pain, Hrithik gave priority to perfection. Battling problems like brain hemorrhage and disc slip, he had to undergo several surgeries. Doctors suggested bed rest for 6 months. Nevertheless, he persisted to complete the film on time. Rakesh Roshan has mentioned this in ‘The Roshans’ Documentary’.

‘War 2’ was released on 14 August 2025.
Hrithik Roshan injured his leg during the rehearsal of a high-energy dance number with Junior NTR on the sets of the film ‘War 2’. Doctors advised him to take rest for about four weeks, due to which the shooting of the song had to be postponed for some time. Hrithik Roshan had mentioned this during an event in Georgia.
Different perfume for each character
Hrithik Roshan uses a different perfume for each character, so that the memories of that character can be refreshed. He believes that fragrance is deeply linked to memories and emotions, hence chooses a new perfume for every new character. During the promotion of the film ‘Super 30’, Hrithik had said – Khushboo keeps the memories of the character fresh.

Even after divorce, Hrithik and Sussanne are good friends and raise their sons together.
As much as Hrithik Roshan’s acting career has been full of challenges, his married life has also been full of turmoil. The story of Hrithik Roshan’s marriage and divorce is one of the popular incidents of Bollywood. In 2000, he married Sussanne Khan, which lasted 14 years. There were reports of separation in 2013 and an official divorce in 2014.
It was one of the costliest divorces in Bollywood, with Sussanne reportedly getting an alimony of Rs 380 crore, although the two still co-parent their two sons Hrihaan and Hridhaan and are good friends. After divorce, Saba Azad came into Hrithik’s life.
Now going to debut in direction
Hrithik Roshan is going to step into direction with the film ‘Krrish 4’. His father Rakesh Roshan himself has announced this on social media. He said that he is now handing over the responsibility of direction to his son Hrithik. At the same time, Rakesh Roshan and Aditya Chopra will jointly produce this film.
Rakesh Roshan shared a photo with Hrithik Roshan on his Instagram. In its caption he wrote, ’25 years ago I launched you as an actor and today after 25 years I am going to launch you as a director.’
