A clash broke out between Youth Congress and SFI workers near the Men’s Hostel of Keralam University.
There was a clash between Youth Congress and SFI workers in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital of Kerala, on Wednesday night. The incident took place outside the boys hostel near Kerala University. Youth Congress was taking out a march demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
When the march reached in front of the hostel, stone pelting started between the two sides and burning torches were also thrown. After this the Youth Congress workers moved towards the hostel and the dispute escalated. The matter even reached the nearby University College campus. When the situation worsened, the police reached the spot.
Tear gas was used several times to disperse the protesters. Police also took place in the hostel campus. Information about lathicharge on the students present there has also come to light. Additional police force was deployed on the spot to control the situation.

Both sides accused each other
SFI state secretary PS Sanjeev alleged that Youth Congress workers threw sticks, stones and burning torches towards the hostel. He said that the students present inside the hostel were targeted.
The Youth Congress alleged that SFI workers from inside the hostel threw stones and bottles at the marching people. Youth Congress members removed SFI banners and also demonstrated.
Pinarayi Vijayan said – the attack was one-sided
Kerala opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan reached the hostel and alleged that the incident was a one-sided attack by the Youth Congress.
He said that along with SFI workers, other students were also present inside the hostel and they were targeted.
He also alleged that there were obstructions in taking the injured students for treatment. There was no immediate reaction from the Youth Congress on these allegations.
ADGP said – action will be taken against those who commit violence only at night
ADGP P. Vijayan said that strict action will be taken against those involved in the violence during the night itself. After the incident, police force remained deployed in the area and ambulances also kept reaching the spot.
