Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir has expressed his displeasure about the pitch in Guwahati. He said, ‘This is not cricket, it is just batting.’
A total of 811 runs were scored in the second ODI between India and West Indies. West Indies scored 405/7. India chased the target by scoring 406/2 runs in 43.3 overs with the help of Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 223 and Rohit Sharma’s 101 runs. Despite this, Gambhir raised questions about the lack of equal competition between bat and ball on the pitch.
Gambhir said – there was nothing for the bowlers
Gambhir told Star Sports that there should be an equal contest between bat and ball in cricket. He said that when a team scores 400 runs and the other team easily chases it, it becomes difficult for the young bowler to bowl on such a pitch.
He said that such a match can be good in terms of record and audience. This could be great for broadcasters too. But as a cricket fan and coach, one should also have sympathy for the bowlers.
Said- there is injustice with the bowlers
Gambhir said that bowling on such a flat pitch is injustice to the bowlers. There should also be something for the bowlers on the wicket, so that they can show their ability.
He said, ‘We have to give something to the bowlers also, so that they can work on the wicket.’
Gambhir defended the young bowlers
Gambhir also talked about avoiding judging bowlers on the basis of their statistics. He said that bowlers already have less options in the current ODI cricket. Two new balls are used. There are 5 fielders in a 30 yard circle. The power-hitting of the batsmen has also increased.
He defended debutant Aaqib Nabi. Aaqib gave 84 runs in 8.5 overs. Gambhir said that young bowlers should be given support and scope for error. New bowlers will not be able to be prepared by being strict just by looking at the bowling figure.
